An SUV typically has more cargo space than you’d find in a sedan, so families gravitate toward these cars. 3-row SUVs offer the most seating capacity, but their cargo space is limited with each seat in use.
2-row SUVs are perfect for the average family of five because everyone and their belongings can fit inside. Here are the 10 models with the largest storage capacities behind the rear seats, based on Cars.com testing regimens. Site measurements are based on total usable storage space rather than official manufacturer specifications.
10.Audi SQ8
cars.com says the Audi SQ8 has about 20.2 cubic feet of space behind the second row. A power liftgate is included on every trim, and the load floor can be lowered if you have the available air suspension equipped.
9. Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is tied with the next two vehicles and offers 20.3 cubic feet of rear-seat space. Its tall height can be intimidating if you’re carrying heavier items, but the opening itself is wide and easily accessible. It also gets chrome interior tie-downs and a power liftgate in the proven Summit Reserve trim.
8. Cadillac XT5
The XT5’s cargo area has rails you can use to secure items or hang grocery bags. In addition to a power liftgate, a touchless entry system is available for the Cadillac XT5. The liftgate has a sensor that will detect each time you move a foot or hand in front of it and it will open momentarily afterward.
7.BMW iX
This model has a standard power liftgate and a large storage compartment under the load floor. While it’s an EV, the BMW iX doesn’t have a frunk for extra storage.
6. Honda Passport
The Passport offers 20.6 cubic feet of storage space behind its rear row, in addition to a standard power liftgate and liftgate. There are also some storage compartments under the load floor that can hold smaller items. The Trailsport model tested by Cars.com also has roof rails that you can use for bikes, canoes, and similar items.
5. Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport
This SUV has 20.7 cubic feet of cargo area with each seat in use. Total cargo capacity is less than the larger Atlas, but both SUVs are just as wide. A contactless opening system and a power tailgate are offered on top trims.
4.Kia Sportage
The Kia Sportage has almost 22 cubic feet of storage if you need to keep all the seats upright. It also has tie-down hooks and additional storage boxes built into the side of the cargo area. A power liftgate is an additional cost.
3.Ford Bronco
Every Ford Bronco has 22.3 cubic feet of space behind the second row. The tailgate has two panels that you can pull out instead of traditionally raising the hatch.
This can be problematic if your Ford Bronco has a soft top, although its grab bar makes access a bit easier. An optional storage system can be attached to the tailgate. Ford also offers a multi-compartment locked safety drawer that can be easily installed under the load floor.
2. Genesis GV80 (2 rows)
The GV80 has 23.5 cubic feet of storage capacity with each seat in use. It has a standard power liftgate and a hands-free opening system. There’s a storage compartment under the load floor for the privacy cover, but you can use it for anything else, too.
1.Hyundai Santa Fe
You’ll get 25.3 cubic feet of space behind the rear row in the Santa Fe, plus a few extra bins under the cargo floor. Tie-downs are also included, and you can get a hands-free entry system and a power liftgate on higher trims.
