We’re a bit surprised that the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 seems to limit its own capabilities while limiting crucial features to different packages. It is a bit expensive to build a 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 that can drive and tow heavier loads. You may have to compromise by giving up off-road upgrades or the max towing package.
How To Get The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 With 4LO
According to van talkSo, you need to plan your 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 setup carefully. First of all, 4LO doesn’t come standard with four-wheel drive. It is an optional plugin. Only the High Country trim comes with 4Lo and the Max Trailering package.
But it starts at $65,900, so you have to shell out a lot of cash for this option. Also, the Maz Trailering configuration cannot be combined with the Silverado Z71 trim. So the ability to go further into the wild and tow heavier loads is an impossible combination.
The 2023 Silverado has two transfer case options. The 2-speed Autotrac transfer case has 2WD, 4WD Auto, 4HI, 4LO, and Neural. 1-speed automatic transfer features 2WD, 4WD Auto, 4HI, and Terrain Mode.
According to Chevrolet, Offroad Mode replaces the need for 4LO. Combines 4HI with improved low-speed traction and control for off-road driving. But it really just adjusts transmission shift points and throttle response to prevent wheel spin and maintain traction.
What comes with the Silverado1500 Max Trailering Package?
The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 Max Trailering package comes with a 3.42 rear axle ratio instead of the standard 3.32 ratio. It is integrated into the antilock brake system to provide measured brake force signals to electronically controlled trailer brake systems.
Additionally, trailer output and gain figures can be viewed in the Driver Information Center, and it provides a 220-amp alternator. The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) increases by 200 lbs. to 7,300 lbs., allowing you to haul more weight.
With the Silverado Z71, you get an off-road tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels with all-season tires, skid plates, tow hooks, hill descent control, a heavy-duty air cleaner, the transfer case of two speeds, and a dual exhaust that is mounted on the bumper.
The Max Trailering Package is available on LT, RST, LTZ and High Country models. Two-speed transfer case is standard with Z71, Trail Boss, Custom, Trail Boss LT, ZR2 and High Country options.
They cannot be grouped together because the Trailering package and the off-road suspension have different purposes. One provides enhanced towing capabilities, while the other adds additional off-road equipment.
But rivals like the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and Ford Expedition offer 4LO with the maximum towing package, so other options can do both.
How much can the 2023 Silverado tow?

The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 can tow up to 13,300 lbs. and haul a payload of up to 2,300 lbs. It only falls short when compared to the 2023 Ford F-150, which can tow up to 14,000 lbs. The Silverado can tow more than the Toyota Tundra and Ram 1500.
You need the 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque to tow up to 13,300 lbs. The Silverado ZR2 can tow up to 8,900 lbs. We’re having trouble finding official specifications for the Z71 model, but off-road models typically have less towing capacity.
4LO is generally reserved for inclement weather. It can make towing through deep snow and mud a little easier. Those who need 4LO may be a bit frustrated by how limited it is with the Chevy Silverado 1500.
