With the introduction of the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine in Ford’s F-series engine arsenal, it has surpassed Chevrolet and Ram in terms of torque. Yeah, 1,200 lb-ft of torque is staggering. That’s the bottom line with the 2023 high-performance version of the Power Stroke six-seven in Super Duty Fords. That adds up to a towing capacity of 40,000 lbs. with 8,000 lbs. of payload.
What other Super Duty Power Stroke engines are there?
All this power puts the six seven HO at the top of its class. But even the non-HO 6.7 has impressive numbers. It makes 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque.
Now those HO numbers come with the F-450 Dual Rear Wheel Regular Cab model equipped with a gooseneck. By opting for the F-450 Crew Cab, those numbers drop to a towing capacity of 30,000. Those are still pretty impressive numbers.
A larger displacement engine is available for Ford Super Duty trucks. It’s the 7.3-liter gasoline V8 with overhead camshafts. This engine has 445 lb-ft of torque, a gain of 15 lb-ft from last year. For gas burners, it is placed on top for a payload of up to 8000 lbs. It also boasts 430 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque. These numbers apply to the F-350 Dual Rear Wheels, Regular Cab 4×2 with the Heavy Payload option.
How do Ford’s gasoline engines compare to the Power Stroke diesel?

Moving down a notch, the F-350 gooseneck leads the class with a towing capacity of 38,000 lbs. and 28,000 lbs. with conventional trailer. And Ford’s F-250 Super Duty with the gooseneck option can tow 23,000 lbs. Their diesel offering covers the entire Super Duty series.
We have already mentioned the 7.3 gasoline Power Stroke engine. But one big change is the removal of the base 6.2-liter V8. Now a new 6.8-liter V8 boosts power to 405 hp from the previous 385 hp.
What other features does the truck have?

Moving on from the availability of the engine, one of the great novelties of F-series trucks is the on-board scale option. As you fill the bed, the option keeps track of the weight of the bed. And with the smart hitch, it measures weight bias to balance loads and make towing easier. For Super Duty trucks, the Pro Trailer Hitch makes hookups that much easier with its steering assist capabilities.
Another towing assistance is the trailer camera package. This helps navigate tight spaces and obstacles. And with Trailer Navigation, you can enter your destination with the function of choosing the best routes to avoid low bridges, sharp turns and other problematic sections of roads.
New 2023 Ford Super Duty trucks start at $45,765 for an F-250 XL. They should be in showrooms in the first part of 2023.
