Clues about the new Toyota Tacoma Hybrid should get your engine running. More power and efficiency are on the way to correct some issues with the outgoing model. See what to expect from the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid.
How much power will the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid have?
The second official 2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid hasn’t been released, but we do have a few clues to evaluate. engine 1 shared that an electric Toyota Tacoma is still on the cards. But it should have a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor.
This configuration has been used in other Toyota vehicles. In the Lexus RX, it makes 366 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Also, in the Toyota Crown, the setup provides 340 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque.
Rumors suggest that the new Tacoma could get the 2.4-liter turbocharged gas-powered four-cylinder engine for the Toyota Highlander. It provides 265 hp and 309 lb-ft of torque.
These figures could change on the new Toyota Tacoma due to its weight and size. The engines could also be tuned differently.
The 2023 Tacoma has a standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 159 hp and 180 pound-feet of torque, which isn’t exactly exciting. This engine is expected to be phased out. You can upgrade to the 3.6-liter V6 engine for 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. Therefore, it is safe to expect more power.
How efficient will the 2024 Tacoma be?
We don’t yet have exact fuel economy numbers for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid. But it should perform slightly better than the current gas-powered model. The Tacoma gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg city and up to 23 mpg highway.
The Toyota Crown gets an EPA-estimated 42 mpg city and up to 41 mpg highway. But it’s a sedan and it’s more aerodynamic than a midsize pickup.
The Lexus RX rings in with an estimated EAP of 31 mpg city and up to 28 mpg highway. This sounds more reasonable.
We expect more towing power. The 2023 Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 lbs. and haul a payload of up to 1,685 lbs. The 2023 Chevy Colorado can tow up to 7,500 lbs. and carry a payload of up to 1,160 lbs.
The new Tacoma will ride on the new TNGA-F platform that underpins the new Toyota Tundra, Toyota Sequoia and the upcoming facelifted Toyota 4Runner.
While the Tacoma maintains its robust body-on-frame construction, the leaf springs could be replaced with a coil-spring setup to improve ride and handling.
What else do we know about the 2024 Tacoma?

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid is expected to resemble the new Toyota Tundra and Toyota Sequioa with a larger grille framed by LED headlights. It could also get bigger bumpers and new wheel designs.
In addition, the interior is expected to be more refined. Hard plastics and other cheap materials could be replaced with higher quality options such as leather and wood trim. We expect the rear seat to have more space for passengers.
The 8.0-inch touchscreen could be swapped for the massive 14.0-inch screen found in the Tundra. It’s safe to expect an updated digital gauge cluster, a wireless phone charging pad, and more camera views. Hopefully wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard.
We could soon learn more about the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid. It could debut in early 2023. Stay tuned for the latest updates.
