We’re spending time with the Audi Q5 to get to know it on a deeper level. As a leading luxury SUV, it offers many advantages, with some unexpected surprises. See what makes the 2022 Audi Q5 stand out from the competition.
Five surprising features of the 2022 Audi Q5
The 2022 Audi Q5 proudly sports four rings to make it stand out from the competition. It offers premium comfort and convenience features to take on rivals like the Acura RDX and BMW X3. It has solid build quality and attractive performance.
However, it’s not perfect and could use a little more polish to stand out against the competition. But it has a lot of potential to be the ideal option for commuting and light adventures. Take a look at some amazing features.
1. The Audi Q5 has a strange design
It took us a while to figure out where the wireless phone charging pad is in the 2022 Audi Q5. It’s on a slide-out tray that can go under the center console lid or cover the front cup holders. You can’t slide it open if the cup holders are full.
Also, it can cause the center console lid to get stuck in the upright position, making it uncomfortable and distracting while driving.
Headlight controls are to the left of the sterling wheel on the dash rather than on a knob. Additionally, the drive mode selector is located below the infotainment system, making it difficult to access while on the move.
2. The Q5 is equipped with off-road functions
The 2022 Audi Q5 has standard all-wheel drive across the lineup, which is a neat bonus. It should be able to handle snow and other slippery conditions with no problem. It has a ground clearance of 8.2 inches which is adequate for climbing obstacles.
You can turn off the traction control system for more control in slippery corners, and it has downhill descent control. Off-Road maximizes traction and braking responses to improve stability.
The V6 model can be equipped with a locking differential to provide more power in slippery conditions. However, our tester’s engine sounded quite loud and strained as it traversed slippery, muddy trails and gravel roads.
3. The Audi Q5 is stylish
The 2022 Audi Q5 has a simple and elegant design. The dashboard is not cluttered with buttons and controls. The roomy interior is attractive without being too flashy or over the top. Woodgrain details break up large sections of black upholstery.
Silver trim helps the interior pop, and the windshield provides plenty of visibility. The huge panoramic sunroof has a nice tint. Light can enter the cabin without being too bright. The head-up display is direct without being distracting.
The infotainment screen is a bit out of reach, but it blends seamlessly into the dash. The doors open wide for easy access, and the hands-free tailgate is a nice touch.
It provides a smooth ride, but the sport mode provides a sense of connection with the road. The engine is nearly silent, but you can hear some wind and road noise at highway speeds.
4. The Q5 is all about customization
You can quickly customize the 2022 Audi Q5 to meet various driving modes. If you want more engagement, turn on dynamic mode and use the paddle shifters. Also, you can use Comfort Mode for a more relaxing ride. You can also customize Solo mode.
The digital gauge cluster has various designs and you can adjust the intensity of the vehicle’s beeps and its built-in voice. The ambient lighting has several colors to choose from, and you can select up to three at a time.
Both the digital gauge cluster and infotainment system can display a 3D topographic map of your surroundings, and live traffic jam assistance helps you avoid delays. The digital rearview mirror shows your direction.
One of the most unique features includes the insulated cup holder. It can keep a drink hot or cold for hours. It kept a can of shovel perfectly chilled for three hours.
5. The Q5 could have more passenger space
The 2022 Audi Q5 provides 25.85 cubic feet of passenger space with up to 54.06 total cubes. According to car and driverfollow the competition. But at least the seats almost fold flat and the lift height is convenient.
The average-sized adult will have plenty of room in the front row, but the back seat can feel cramped. About four adults can be comfortably accommodated in the Audi Q5.
There doesn’t seem to be much room for personal items. The center console, cup holders, door pockets, and storage trays are shallow. There’s no good place for your phone unless you put it on the center console’s sliding tray, which can be frustrating to access.
