If you’re shopping for a small SUV, the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan might end up on your shortlist. However, if you want a little more luxury, the Audi Q3 can provide it. The only problem is that it costs over $10,000 more for essentially the same car. In that case, is the Audi Q3 really worth that price premium over the Volkswagen Tiguan? Here are five reasons why it might be.
1. The 2022 Audi Q3 is available with a more powerful engine
2022 Audi The Q3 comes standard with a 184-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. You’ll find the same one on all trim levels of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan. However, the Audi Q3 has a trick up its sleeve in the form of a bigger, more powerful 2.0-liter engine. According to Audi, which is in the Q3 45 trim level, the upgraded engine makes 228 hp and can take the car to 60 mph from a standstill in just 7.1 seconds.
2. The Audi Q3 comes in a couple of fun colors
Do you like to think outside the soft color palette of silver, gray and white? If so, the Audi Q3 has you covered in its funky colors. Unlike the Tiguan, the Q3 can be purchased in Turbo Blue, Tango Red Metallic, and our favorite, Pulse Orange.
3. The Q3 looks better than the Tiguan
Appearance is subjective, but we prefer the sophisticated and bold exterior look of the Audi Q3 to the Volkswagen Tiguan. Don’t get us wrong, the Tiguan still looks good. But we like the Q3’s single-frame grille, LED headlights and bold fenders, which make it look like a baby version of the stately Audi Q8.
4. The Audi comes standard with Quattro AWD
The Volkswagen Tiguan is available with the brand’s 4Motion AWD system, but it only comes as an option. The Audi Q3 has an advantage over this with its standard Quattro AWD system. It is true that both systems work in a similar way, but it is good that you have it as standard with the Audi. Especially with its higher price.
5. The interior of the Audi Q3 is better equipped than that of the Volkswagen Tiguan
In its standard form, the Audi Q3 comes with leather seats, three-zone automatic climate control, a power liftgate, a power panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, and a 12.3-inch driver information display. There’s also an updated 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay/Android Auto.
You can get many of those same features in the Volkswagen Tiguan, but the screens are smaller and you’ll have to level up to unlock some others. In that case, the Q3 offers a bit more for the money.
2022 Audi Q3 vs. 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan
If you’re looking to spend under $30,000 on a small crossover SUV, the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan is a great option. However, you’ll have to spend a little over $30,000 to get many of the same features that are standard on the Audi Q3. In that case, it might be better to opt for the Audi from the get-go.
