If you’ve been paying attention to the news, you may have noticed that it appears that thefts from United States Postal Service letter carriers and mail trucks have been on the rise. And you’re not wrong. In 2018, 80 mail carrier robberies were reported. In 2021, that number tripled to more than 260. So what is happening to USPS mail trucks and what is the agency’s plan to fight crime?

Why do people steal from mail carriers?

There are several reasons why a criminal might be interested in targeting a USPS mail truck or mail carrier for a robbery. They may be hoping to get some cash or a check that’s in the mail. But, the crime can also be much more serious than that.
