Beware of fake PAN SMS update, says SBI, protect yourself this way

Here is a warning for customers of the State Bank of India (SBI). A fake SMS has been circulating asking SBI account holders to update their PAN number to avoid having their accounts blocked. reporting on it, Tweeted GDP Fact Check“A #Fake message issued in the name of SBI is asking customers to update their PAN number to prevent their account from being blocked.”

According to the information, “Dear customer, your SBI YONO account was closed today, please contact now and update your PAN number details,” reads the fake message that is going viral. PIB has further warned that people should never reply to emails/SMS asking to share their personal or banking details. Additionally, PIB also advised people to report such fake messages to

Likewise, the Ministry of Finance reported on Monday that SBI had been authorized to issue and collect electoral bonds through its 29 authorized branches from November 9 to 15. “The State Bank of India (SBI), in Phase XXIII of sale, has been authorized to issue and collect Election Bonds through its 29 authorized branches (as per attached list) between 09.11.2022 and 15.11.2022”, the ministry said, quoted by a Live Mint in a report.

Online Fraud Warning Tips

Step 1:

SBI has said that people should enter the UPI PIN only while paying online.

Step 2:

The UPI PIN is required only for money transfer and not for receiving. Always verify mobile number, name and UPI ID before sending money.

Step 3:

Never share your UPI PIN with anyone. The scanner should preferably be used for funds transfer.

Step 4:

Do not seek resolution from sources other than the official ones. Use the help section of the app for any technical or payment issues, and in case of a discrepancy, seek a solution through the bank’s complaint resolution portal.
