A crucial factor when deciding which truck to choose is reliability. It’s ideal to have a truck that has minimal mechanical issues and can perform hard for many miles and years. According to Consumer Reports’ annual Auto Reliability Survey, there is only one new full-size pickup recommended by Consumer Reports in 2023: the 2023 Ram 1500.
The 2023 Ram 1500 is the only new full-size pickup recommended by Consumer Reports
The 2023 Ram 1500 earned the coveted recommendation from Consumer Reports. CR evaluated other full-size trucks, but none received this honor. This includes the 2023 Ford F-150, 2023 Chevy Silverado, 2023 Nissan Titan, 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, and 2023 Toyota Tundra. While Consumer Reports previously recommended the 2022 Tundra, the organization removed the Tundra from the list of recommendations in 2023 due to declining reliability.
As one of the most trusted authorities for automotive testing, CR’s recommendation for the Ram 1500 carries a lot of weight. Also, since the organization does not recommend many truck models, the recommendation is especially significant. The only other new pickup trucks Consumer Reports recommends in 2023 are the 2023 Ford Maverick compact pickup and the 2023 Honda Ridgeline midsize pickup.
CR recommendation for Ram 1500 based on Auto Reliability Survey

The Ram 1500 has a well-deserved reputation for reliability, durability, and quality. Consumer Reports recognized these qualities in its annual Automotive Reliability Survey, which it uses to create its list of recommendations. CR recommended the 2022 Ram 1500 and, following the results of the recent Car Reliability Survey, the recommendation remains for the 2023 model year.
For the Automotive Reliability Survey, Consumer Reports analyzed 17 potential problem areas over the past year. Owners submitted surveys for more than 300,000 vehicles. Some examples of problem areas include engines, noise, electrical systems, paint, leaks, and brakes. The Ram 1500 is very reliable in potential problem areas, which is why the truck retained its CR recommendation in 2023.
