Do you want long-term reliability? Old diesel trucks are better than new

Yes, you heard right. For diesel long-term reliability, buying a truck that is five years old or older is better than buying a new one. The new generation of diesel engines from Ford, GM and Ram are some of the best ever made. But some of the older diesel trucks, while not as powerful as new, are still legitimate alternatives to buying new simply based on availability, maintenance costs, options and price.

There is no new diesel engine from any of the American truck manufacturers that can be considered the best in the industry. They all feature similar numbers, with unique features to help feed passionate fans. And looking at the long list of new pickup truck engines available now, you can see that they’re actually getting smaller, but just as or more powerful than previous designs. Do you really need that for the cost of admission?
