Ford is one of the original American automakers, and while the Detroit-based automaker isn’t known for its reliability, it does have some reliable options. In fact, one of the most reliable American cars right now is a Ford, and it’s also a relatively new Ford. Here’s a look at the Ford Maverick and how it’s one of the most reliable American cars on the market right now.
A Look at Consumer Reports New Car Reliability Ratings
Every year, Consumer Reports sends surveys to car owners asking them to report vehicle problems. According to Consumer Reports, the consumer aggregate received hundreds of thousands of responses this year, and that data forms the backbone of site trust scores. The results of those polls are not surprising, as Toyota, known for building reliable cars, came out on top.
American automakers like Ford, Chevrolet, and Jeep did not fare as well overall, ranking among the worst in terms of overall brand reliability. That said, while the brands didn’t score well, they did make some pretty reliable models. In fact, Ford and his companies dominated the short list of reliable American cars.
The Buick Encore GX, Chevy Trailblazer, and Chevy Blazer were reliable domestic options. The Ford Edge also made the list, as did the Lincoln Corsair and Lincoln Nautilus. Meanwhile, the Ford Maverick made the list twice, as both the regular Maverick and the Maverick Hybrid were among the most reliable American cars.
The Ford Maverick is one of the most reliable American cars
That said, while the Ford Maverick is one of the most reliable American cars, it’s still a Ford. According to RepairmanFord doesn’t score very well in terms of reliability. It ranks 21 out of 32 for all car makes, and on average, repairs to a Ford will cost owners $775 a year. Ford models need repairs less frequently than average, but the cost of those repairs tends to be higher than average.
RepairPal does not yet have data for the Maverick as it is a new truck. That being said, the Maverick has already racked up some issues. In fairness to the compact Ford pickup, it’s less of a problem than its bigger cousin, the F-150. For example, the Maverick currently has fewer recalls than the F-150, and owners have yet to report as many problems with the truck. More problems may arise in the future, but the Maverick seems solid for now.
An Overview of the 2022 Ford Maverick
The Ford Maverick is solid in other ways, too. This Ford pickup starts at around $21,000, making it the cheapest pickup on the market right now. However, car buyers who choose this Ford pickup over other options will pay some trade-offs. The Detroit automaker gave the Maverick two powertrain options. It starts with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid that makes 191 hp.
There’s also a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 250 hp. The hybrid option gets 42 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, for 38 mpg combined. That makes the Maverick a very fuel efficient truck. Meanwhile, the 2.0-liter engine gets 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, for 27 mpg combined, which isn’t bad either.
However, due to the Maverick’s small size, it won’t be able to tow much. The standard hybrid powertrain can tow 2,000 pounds, while the 2.0-liter engine option allows the Maverick to tow up to 4,000 pounds when properly equipped.
