The 2022 Lexus LX is all-new for the first time since 2008. It’s a long time for a Lexus SUV to go without an update, but the 2022 version brings some significant changes. We see an all-new turbocharged V6 engine replacing the outdated V8, a lighter build, and next-generation infotainment system in this SUV. Let’s dive in and see what else we can find in this full-size luxury SUV from Lexus.
Why we love the Lexus LX among luxury SUV models for 2022
The LX is a traditional luxury full-size SUV with its hulking size and rugged capabilities. This brute has always been a lexus that you could take out on the trails and know that it would work extremely well. The balance of the LX comes with a sleek, refined and smooth ride when you return to paved roads.
For 2022, the Lexus LX is based on the Toyota J300 platform, making this SUV the only model in the Toyota and Lexus lineup to use the J-series platform in the United States. The LX600 takes this impressive vehicle to the top of the list to compete with Mercedes-Benz G-Class, BMW X7, Audi Q7 and Land Rover Range Rover.
Is the LX the same as the Land Cruiser?
Both SUVs use the same engine and share most of the same components, but they are not the same. With the introduction of the 2022 model year, the Toyota Land Cruiser left the American automotive world. This leaves the Lexus LX as the only full-size SUV for 2022 from this family of brands.
New power for this full-size Lexus SUV
The new Lexus LX is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine mated to a new 10-speed automatic transmission. This is a striking improvement over the outgoing 5.7-liter V8 that has served this SUV for the past 14 years.
The new powertrain offers 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Unsurprisingly, the LX comes with standard 4WD to make this one of the most capable Lexus SUV models in 2022. Fuel economy is better than before, but only 17 mpg city/22 highway for this SUV. If you want to tow a trailer with this new full-size luxury SUV from Lexus, you’ll enjoy 8,000 pounds of towing capacity.
Lexus equips this SUV with a new infotainment system for 2022

The outgoing touchpad controlled system of the previous generation Lexus LX is gone. In its place is a new touchscreen-based system with a 12.3-inch main screen and a 7-inch companion screen. The larger touchscreen handles connectivity tasks with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the smaller screen is used for HVAC and other in-cabin controls.
How much does the 2022 Lexus LX cost?
Lexus’ new luxury full-size SUV starts at $88,245 for the base LX 600 model. Step up to the Premium trim and you’ll pay $96,245, while the Luxury trim starts at $104,345. The top model in this lineup is the Ultra-Luxury model, which is priced at $127,435. If you’re looking for a sportier trim, the F Sport trim starts at $102,345.
Is this a good Lexus SUV to drive from the 2022 model year lineup?

The 2022 Lexus LX is 441 pounds lighter than the previous version, has a more powerful yet more efficient powertrain, and has an upgraded infotainment system. This large luxury SUV is an incredibly useful vehicle when looking for a three-row SUV at the top of the market.
