Most vehicles get some changes for each and every model year. However, some models get a complete redesign, offering a new version with the same name. Was the 2023 Jeep Gladiator redesigned? The automaker rolled out a new special edition, pricing and more, but it’s not a completely redesigned midsize truck. Just a few years ago, the Gladiator was born as a modified pickup version of the Jeep Wrangler. If not restyled, what’s new for the 2023 model year?
What’s new with the 2023 Jeep Gladiator?
According to cars.com, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator has a significant change for the new model year. You’ll get a Freedom Edition model, which pays homage to the US military. It adds a special Oscar Mike badge on the tailgate and an American flag decal on the side. Additionally, LED headlights and fog lights are standard. The special edition model also comes with steel front and rear bumpers that can be fitted with winches to enhance the Gladiator’s capability. Finally, the Freedom Edition has steel rock rails that help protect you from rocks and other hazards while trail riding.
Next up is an all-new capability package for the High Altitude trim level. As you might guess from the name, it enhances the capability of the 2023 Jeep Gladiator in a number of ways. For example, the steel front bumper and rock rails found on the Freedom Edition. Additionally, the front-mounted camera provides visibility of any obstacles in front of the vehicle that may be difficult to spot on a trail.
Lastly, the Willys trim gets standard keyless entry, remote start, and a new color option. Snazzleberry is a new color that has replaced High Speed Yellow in this model’s color range.
Same Gladiator engines, new price
Unfortunately, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator uses the same engine as the previous year’s model. Fortunately, few people have complained about Gladiator’s powerful base engine. It’s still a 3.6-liter V6 paired with a six-speed manual transmission, good for 285 horsepower. The base model starts at $40,570, including destination charges. An eight-speed automatic transmission is optional for the base version, which only comes with a standard manual. Some versions can also have a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine that makes 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque.
The standard engine gets a combined 19 mpg, while the diesel variant gives the Gladiator a combined 24 mpg. Neither is terribly impressive, but the diesel option is certainly more viable today.

Why isn’t the Gladiator redesigned?
The 2023 Jeep Gladiator is not restyled for the new model year. While automakers can certainly redesign a vehicle anytime they want, they typically wait at least a few years before doing so. The Gladiator is still considered new to the auto industry. The Jeep Gladiator first went on sale again in the spring of 2019, making 2023 only its fourth year in production. For comparison, the Toyota Tacoma, a close competitor to the Gladiator, hasn’t been redesigned since 2016. It’s likely a few years yet to see a full overhaul of the Jeep midsize truck.
In conclusion, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator did not receive a facelift. Also, it doesn’t update either. If you’re a buyer who didn’t like the design or feel of the midsize truck, keep waiting. It’s not changing enough to particularly differentiate itself from the 2022 model year version. Instead, there’s just a new Freedom Edition to honor the US military, a new High Altitude package, and some Willys trim improvements. . Other than that, the 2023 Gladiator and 2022 Gladiator are identical.
