Not again, trucks like the Rivian R1T are making cuts and removing features. Some options are being eliminated in the face of semiconductor chip shortages and supply chain constraints. However, the Rivian R1T 2022 is canceling options due to the problems they cause.
The 2022 Rivian R1T features beloved features
The 2022 Rivian R1T is officially dropping its motorized tonneau cover to address its issues. It will be available later. But the camp kitchen and team tunnel shuttle are being redesigned for unknown reasons.
The tonneau cover is an aluminum cover that slides along the integrated bed rails. According to car blog, customers complain that it doesn’t open all the way, is noisy and choppy. This led to an investigation that discovered a design flaw that needed to be fixed.
Rivan needs to rework the failing component in a way that improves the shell’s robustness across manufacturing construction variations.
But Rivian doesn’t know when this quest will be complete, so for the foreseeable future Rivian R1T models will be built with a manual tonneau cover or without a tonneau cover.
Customers waiting for their trucks can choose between no cover or the manual option. Plus, they can wait for the motorized tonneau cover to return.
The manual cover has four interlocking aluminum and composite panels that slide into integrated bed rails. It can be blocked and protect the bed from light. It can be stored in the gear tunnel.
If you have already accepted your truck with a motorized cover, it will be repaired free of charge. If you’re waiting for your order, you’ll receive a $700 rebate for switching to manual coverage and $1,500 if you opt out of coverage.
What’s wrong with Rivian’s camp kitchen?
Not exactly a problem with the 2022 Rivian R1T and the optional Camp Kitchen. It’s just pulling to make it better. The Rivin team has been testing Camp Kitchen in various environments and discovered bugs that could be improved.
The Rivian Gear Shop was selling the Camp Kitchen x Snow Peak bundle for $5,000. However, it stopped to make it even better for cooking in the wild.
The package included the Gear Tunnel Shuttle sliding platform that the kitchen sits on and a Snow Peak 30-piece integrated dinnerware set. However, this is strange because no one was complaining about it.
Will the features of the R1T be more expensive?
The Camp Kitchen and power folding tonneau cover may be more expensive once they return for the 2022 Rivian R1T. For 2023, the design could be reconfigured without integrated side rails. This could mean that the truck bed is redesigned.
More information about Camp Kitchen will be shared once the updates are complete. The new configuration will come with updated prices. However, those who ordered the original version will have their price protected.
It feels a bit early to redesign the Rivian R1T. The 2023 model is expected to be carried over mainly. However, we expect the larger battery pack to arrive to increase the range to 400 miles.
Stay tuned for the latest updates from Rivian. If you have the camping kitchen, then we are jealous of your cooking ability!
