Let’s just say it’s not, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is quietly ditching engine options and has already lost V8 power. It’s the end of an era, and Stellantis didn’t give us time to say goodbye. The option of a V8 engine with the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is gone.
Does the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee have a V8 engine?
No, the two-row 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee no longer has a V8 engine. However, this power is still available with the larger three-row Jeep Grand Cherokee L. However, you may be able to find a two-row model with a V8 at a dealership.
Jeep vice president Jim Morrison mentioned that this engine was living on borrowed time, but did not specify when it would go away. Instead, it was suddenly dropped without warning, and you can’t even configure a two-row Grand Cherokee with the V8 engine online.
The 5.7-liter V8 engine provides 375 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. Increases towing capacity up to 7,200 lbs. With the V6 engine, the Grand Cherokee can only tow up to 6,200 lbs. and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe tops out at 6,000 lbs.
Now buyers have to get the Jeep Grand Cherokee L tow up to 7,200 lbs., which comes with a higher price, longer body, longer wheelbase and different suspension tuning.
How much power does the 2023 Grand Cherokee have?
The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 293 hp and 257 lb-ft of torque.
You can upgrade to the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe to get a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that pairs with two electric motors to make 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.
The 4xe can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.0 secondswhile the V8 engine helps the Grand Cherokee hit 60 mph in about 6.9 seconds.
Plus, it’s more fuel efficient. The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe gets an EPA-estimated range of 25 miles on a single charge and 56 MPGe. For no charge, it gets around 23 mpg in the city and up to 24 mpg on the highway.
Towing is a big problem for the Grand Cherokee, so we wonder if more power is on the way. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer and regular Wagoneer just got a new Hurricane 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six with up to 500 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque.
We also miss the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, but it could be renamed. Jeep registered the trademark Jep Xtreme Performance (JXP), which could mean sporty stuff is coming. Xtreme Recon is off-road, so performance could be for racing.
2023 Grand Cherokee: What’s New?

Other than losing the V8 engine, there isn’t much new for the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Trailhawk model is now only available with the 4xe powertrain.
A 10.1-inch touchscreen and built-in navigation come standard on Summit and Overland models. Additionally, a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system is available.
The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary Edition spices things up with 20-inch Gloss Black wheels and other Gloss Black trim pieces.
It’s still pretty early for 2023. Some special editions and new engine options may arrive by 2024. Stay tuned for the latest updates.
