It’s almost time for the 2024 Ram 1500 EV to arrive, and it will do things a little differently. Maybe he shared his insights with the ongoing Ram Revolution to help create the best possible electric truck. See which feature makes a significant difference for the 2024 Ram 1500 REV.
What is the 2024 Ram 1500 REV?
The 2024 Ram 1500 REV could be the official name of the next Ram electric pickup truck. According to MoparInsiders, REV may refer to Range Electrical Paradigm Switch (REPB). The REPB is a fancy term for the range extender.
The Ram 1500 REV would have a leg up on rivals like the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevy Silverado 1500 EV, and GMC Hummer EV. It would alleviate range anxiety with the ability to travel if you run out of charge.
Also, it could be useful when towing, since electric trucks tend to lose a lot of range when pulling trailers. Cold weather and bad road conditions can also reduce battery power.
How does the Ram REV system work?
The 2024 Ram 1500 REV could stand for Range Extended Vehicle. This rumor is based on the fact that Stellantis recently obtained a trademark for this term with the United States Patent Trademark Office (USPTO). It’s a bit easier to say and remember than REPB.
The Ram 1500 REV may have a smaller displacement gasoline engine that acts as a generator to recharge the batteries. It could be similar to how the Chevy Volt used to operate.
This would mean that the engine would not drive the wheels at all. It would turn on to power the batteries when the charge is low. It may also activate when towing or driving off-road. It could also help propel the truck in sub-zero temperatures.
The RAM 1500 REV may have a different battery than the Ram 1500 BEV. BEV refers to battery electric vehicle. This REV could be a different trim model that costs more.
However, we can speculate that it also has less electrical power than the BEV model. It could be a lower priced work truck model, like the Ford F-150 Lightning Pro when it first came out.
What else do we know about the electric Ram 1500?
Clues about the 2024 Ram 1500 REV have been kept under wraps, but RAM CEO Mike Koval shared that the Ram 1500 EV will outperform its rivals when it comes to towing. So you’ll need to tow over 11,000 pounds to beat the Rivian R1T.
The Ford F-150 Lightning makes up to 580 hp and the Chevy Silverado 1500 EV could deliver up to 754 hp. It’s unclear how much power the Ram 1500 BEV will provide.
However, Stellantis expected the electric Ram 1500 to have 500+ miles of range, which would outpace its rivals. The truck rides on the Stellantis STLA architecture, which is a scalable platform that could support the batteries needed for longer range.
We will learn more soon! The Ram 1500 BEV will make its debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on January 5. Stay tuned for the latest updates.
