Off-road trucks are extremely popular, both for their capability and their rugged looks. Even for those who don’t intend to take their truck into 4×4 situations, these models sell well. From Ford to Nissan, most truck manufacturers build some type of off-road truck. And according to Kelley Blue Book, these just might be the best.
3. 2022 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X
The off-road variant of the Nissan Frontier has long been known as the PRO-4X. This version adds a variety of off-road advantages, as well as an aggressive design. For the 2022 model, Nissan has finally updated its midsize truck, and the results are worth the wait.
The 2022 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X comes with Bilstein shocks, skid plates, electronic locking rear differentials and off-road gauges. Another plus for this midsize truck is its standard V6 engine. Every Frontier comes with a 3.8-liter V6 that makes 310 horsepower, and that includes the PRO-4X model.
In terms of cost, the Frontier PRO-4X starts at $38,720. That’s certainly more expensive than the base model, but for what you get, it might be justified for some.
two. 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor
Ford has a big budget for its full-size pickup. Simply put, the Blue Oval puts a lot of money into the F-150 because it’s one of its best sellers. The 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor is one of the most capable variants of this truck; I just know it’s not cheap.
Under the hood of the F-150 Raptor is a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6. It makes 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. So this truck is not only off-road ready, but it’s also legitimately powerful. And it doesn’t stop there. Ford has added FOX Live Valve internal bypass shocks, a 5-link rear suspension, and other features to help with off-road use.
If the regular F-150 Raptor isn’t enough for you, Ford has plans to release a truck that sits on top of it. The F-150 Raptor R is coming up, and it’s set to make 700 hp. And that’s an absolutely crazy number for a truck.
1. 2022 Ram 1500TRX
While the Ford F-150 Raptor has been around for a while, Ram has finally produced its answer to a full-size truck with off-road capability and performance. The Ram TRX is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that makes 702 hp.
This off-road truck comes with 11.6 inches of ground clearance, an electronic locking rear differential, a Bilstein suspension system, and even launch control. All of these things come together to make the Ram TRX a beast of a vehicle. According to Kelley’s Blue BookIt has a starting MSRP of over $71,690.
That makes the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX an expensive truck. But, if you want one of the most capable Rams around, it won’t come cheap. Production is also quite limited, so finding one might not be the easiest task.
