For 2023, General Motors is giving its midsize pickup a serious upgrade for Chevy and GMC. The 2023 GMC Canyon will be all-new, and it won’t be cheap either. How expensive will it be? Well, to put things in perspective, the Canyon AT4X Edition 1 will cost upwards of $65,000. That price puts it in the same territory as the 2023 Ford F-150 Platinum.
What’s next for Canyon 2023?
The GMC Canyon is entering a new generation, along with the Chevy Colorado. The engine lineup has been simplified, meaning the 2023 Canyon will no longer offer a V6 engine. Plus, GMC is giving the Canyon a serious off-road finish, known as AT4X.
The 2023 Canyon AT4X will come with a 2.7-liter turbocharged engine. It makes 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Plus, there’s a plethora of off-road products introduced, aiming this truck squarely at midsize trucks like the Tacoma TRD Pro. But, there’s one thing that’s going to hold this truck back, and that’s cost.
How expensive is the 2023 GMC Canyon?
According to car and driver, the 2023 Canyon will have a starting MSRP of around $38,000. By comparison, the 2023 Colorado will probably cost around $30,000. Don’t expect to get the AT4X for that cost though. Along with increased capacity, GM has seriously raised the price.
If you’re lucky enough to get a Canyon AT4X Edition 1, you’ll be paying $66,290, and that’s before potential dealer markups. Now, not every AT4X Canyon will cost that much. Without the Edition 1 package, GMC has priced it under $60,000. Still, for a midsize truck, that seems pretty expensive. Even with all the capability this little truck has to offer.
The New GMC Canyon Isn’t Here Yet
Canyon 2023 has been announced and reservations are open. But don’t expect to see this midsize truck on dealer lots just yet. Chevy and GMC have stated that the new variant of the small truck should arrive in early 2023.

The current GMC Canyon has been around for over 10 years. So a new generation is overdue. With Nissan updating the Frontier and Toyota promising a new Tacoma, it’s important for GM to keep up with the competition.
By far the biggest news for the Canyon is the addition of the AT4X version. If you want off-road capability in a luxury package, you should probably consider this. That is, if you have $60k to spend on a midsize truck.
Will there be a 2023 Canyon Denali?
GMC is likely best known for its Denali version, and there will be a 2023 Canyon Denali. The Denali package adds legitimate luxury and a host of features. The Denali trim really has no rivals from other brands. Most truck manufacturers reserve the big luxury features for full-size trucks.

Like the AT4X, the Denali version will probably cost quite a bit of money. But it might be worth it for some consumers.
