In his reliability analysis of vehicles, including full-size trucks, J.D. Power uses a rating system from 0 to 100, which is based on the “independent and unbiased opinions of verified car owners.” A higher rating means the truck has fewer problems. The publication states that the reliability rating “measures the level of defects, malfunctions, and design flaws experienced by vehicle owners.” It also “covers the entire vehicle, from the engine to the infotainment system.”
With an “excellent” rating of 87/100, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is more reliable than all other full-size trucks tested by JD Power. After the Silverado 1500, three full-size trucks have reliability ratings of 86/100: the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500/3500, and the 2022 Ford F-150. Also, the least reliable truck is the Toyota Tundra 2022, which has an “average” rating of 70/100.

In addition to earning the highest reliability rating for a full-size pickup truck, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 ties to the mechanically similar 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 for JD Power’s best overall rating. Both trucks earned an overall score of 85/100.
Other areas where the Silverado 1500 scores well are resale value (87/100) and dealer experience (86/100). However, the Silverado 1500 only has an average driving experience rating of 78/100.
JD Power also highlighted specific things Chevy Silverado 1500 owners like. Examples include fuel economy, driving range and the sound the doors make when owners close them. Additionally, owners liked the truck’s good steering and handling in slippery driving conditions.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500/3500 Heavy Truck Is Also Very Reliable
The heavy-duty version of the Silverado, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500, is also very reliable. Earned a JD Power reliability rating of 86/100. Additionally, JD Power rates the Silverado 2500/3500 as the best heavy-duty full-size truck overall, with an overall rating of 84/100.
