Although the 2023 Nissan Armada moves forward with the same build, platform, and powertrain as the 2022 version, we can start to look forward to the 2024 model. This is when the outdated Nissan V8 will finally leave the market in favor of something much better. What could this new three-row Nissan SUV offer?
Is Nissan changing the Navy?
If you’re a fan of the Nissan V8 engine in the Navy, you’ll want to act fast and buy one of the 2023 versions of this large, three-row SUV. The 2024 Nissan Armada redesign is underway, bringing us a new model that is expected to catch up with the rest of the market with a new powertrain.
The new Nissan Armada uses a V6 by 2024
The next-generation Armada should arrive in late 2024 with a new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. This new version of the Armada should be much more fuel efficient than the previous model.
According to automotive news, Nissan follows along with the rest of the three-row SUV market. Very few large SUVs still use V8 engines. The Nissan V8 is a dinosaur compared to some that have already been scrapped in favor of turbocharged V6 powertrains.
“Replacing the Armada’s V8 with a turbocharged V6 isn’t so much progress as it is a measure to keep up.” –Nissan AutoPacific President Ed Kim
Can the new powertrain deliver as much power as the outgoing Nissan V8?
The current V8 engine in the Nissan Armada is a 5.6-liter naturally aspirated V8 that produces 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. It shouldn’t be too difficult for Nissan to meet or exceed these figures with a new 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine.
A more interesting question might be whether Nissan will use a CVT for this new Armada or offer a more traditional transmission. The CVT would certainly be more efficient, but a traditional transmission could make this new full-size SUV more useful for consumers who want to tow behind the Armada.
Will the powertrain be all that is updated for the new Nissan Armada?

The 2022 version of the Armada received an update last year with:
- a new grill
- headlights
- bumpers and fenders
- Redesigned rear hatch
- updated taillights
- New 12.3-inch touch screen
That said, an all-new powertrain could lead to a new platform, making the new Armada easier to drive.
What other changes could we see for the 2024 Nissan Armada redesign?
When Ford traded in the Expedition, they added a new rear suspension that improved ride quality, comfort, handling, and rear cargo space. The Armada is one of the smallest full-size SUVs on the market. Similar upgrades to the suspension could make this new Nissan much more enjoyable to drive on any road.
What else should we expect in the new Nissan Armada for 2024?

The 2024 version of this three-row SUV should be a complete redesign. That said, don’t be too surprised if Nissan goes ahead with some of the most recent changes made for the 2022 model year. As we learn more about this new SUV, we’ll continue to provide updates.
