This funky imported Japanese 4×4 truck won our local cars and coffee

1997 Nissan Elgrand and its onwer

At our local Cars and Coffee, we get the usual collection of funky Miatas, lifted trucks, and the occasional Ferrari or Lamboghini. But this past weekend, one vehicle caught more attention than the red Ferrari 488 parked just a few feet away, and it was a minivan. Parked between the Porsches and the Challengers was a 1997 Nissan Caravan Elgrand Japanese minivan, pearl white, narrow and tall. Not only was the steering wheel on the wrong side, but there was also a for sale sign on the windshield and a huge crowd.

What is a JDM van?

So of course I called the number on the sign. Here in Albuquerque, New Mexico, we see a few JDM, or right-hand drive cars from the Japanese domestic market. There are some Mitsubishi Delica 4×4 trucks in the city. But no one at this Cars and Coffee had ever seen a Nissan Caravan Elgrand. The van’s owner, Oliver Tan, is also very happy to talk about the van.
