Could your new electric truck tell people how old you are? It turns out that the older you are, the less likely you are to want a Tesla Cybertruck. But, if you’re older, you’ll prefer the Ford F-150 Lightning. When compared to each other, which electric truck would you choose? Would you go against your fellow millennials and get a new Ram 1500 Revolution, a Silverado EV or a Cybertruck because that’s what kids like?
Which electric truck would you choose?
Of the five upcoming or available electric pickup trucks from Ford, Toyota, Tesla, Chevy, or Ram, which would you choose? A new survey of automatic list You can predict which electric truck you want based on your age. While all age groups prefer the Ford Lighting or the highly anticipated Toyota Tacoma EV pickup, there were several significant differences. The survey asked potential buyers which truck they would want: the Ford F-150 Lightning, Toyota Tacoma EV, Tesla Cybertruck, Chevy Silverado EV, or Ram 1500 Revolution.
Yes, the survey did not include all the electric trucks you can buy or should be able to buy. In particular, the Rivian R1T and Lordstown Endurance were missing. Also, while many expect Toyota to launch a new electric Tacoma by 2024 or 2025, Toyota has yet to confirm that it will launch an electric pickup. Although the Silverado EV and Ram 1500 Revolution were included in the survey, each age group preferred other brands. However, we have yet to see the new Ram Revolution, as it will debut in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Baby Boomers don’t like the Cybertruck
32% of Gen Z electric truck buyers would prefer the Tesla Cybertruck. Although production is finally starting and most expect the Cybertruck to arrive as a 2024 model. But it seems that Generation Z, generally defined as those born between 1996 and 2015, seems to prefer the iconoclastic lines of the Cybertruck to the more traditional lines of the Ford. The Cybertruck should, when we start seeing them on the road, look like nothing else on the road.
Millennials prefer the Tacoma EV, even though it doesn’t exist yet

Toyota has not confirmed that it will build a Tacoma electric pickup truck. However, many are hoping that Toyota will jump on the bandwagon and release a new EV version of the midsize Tacoma. The Tacoma, in some ways, is the truck of the millennial generation because it’s a little smaller than full-size trucks, but it offers the most capacity. It’s also earned a modern reputation as a durable, off-road truck, and its styling probably speaks more to millennials than a traditional truck.
21% of millennials prefer the Toyota. However, tied for second place were the Cybertruck and the F-150 Lightning.
Generation X and baby boomers prefer Ford F-150 lighting.
Those of us born before 1978 should prefer the traditional truck look of the Ford F-150 Lighting. Traditionalists love the Ford because, like the Cybertruck, it doesn’t try to look like an electric spaceship. By contrast, 31% of baby boomers and 25% of Gen Xers preferred Lightning. It looks like an F-150, it does F-150 things like haul and tow, and it’s the size of an F-150. Although 25% of boomers also said they would prefer Toyota, only 17% of Gen Xers said they would.
