Don’t be too quick to judge the Kia Telluride. It could be more capable than you think. Our 2022 model was a beast in the woods, and now the Telluride is even tougher than before. The 2023 Kia Telluride off-road models really step up.
Which off-road version of the 2023 Kia Telluride is better?
There are two 2023 Kia Telluride off-road terms to consider. You can opt for the Kia Telluride X-Line or the Kia Telluride X-Pro for a bit more capability. While the Telluride won’t keep up with a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, it can handle moderate off-road trails.
Telluride X-Line and X-Pro packages can be added to EX, SX and SX Prestige models. These are the three top level models. They sit above the S and LX models, but you can add all-wheel drive to each model.
With the X-Line, you get standard AWD, a suspension lift that increases ground clearance from 8.0 to 8.4 inches, higher roof rails, a unique grille design, 20-inch wheels covered with all-season tires and an improved traction control system.
The X-Pro builds on this package with 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, increased towing capacity from 5,000 to 5,500 lbs., a 110-volt home-style outlet in the cargo area, a spare tire full-size, and off-road suspension tuning.
People looking to push the Telluride a bit more should go for the X-Pro package. However, both options provide more control and stability in slippery conditions.
Is the Telluride good for off-roading?
Yes, the 2023 Kia Telluride is a solid off-road SUV option. It could use a little more ground clearance and off-road modes, but it’s stable, safe, and has plenty of power to venture off the beaten path.
The Telluride features AWD lockup for greater control at lower speeds. Helps prevent slips and slides in areas with slippery mud and snow. You can go ahead and hit the lock button to make sure the Telluride won’t start in 2WD until a slip is detected.
In addition, there are driving modes for Eco, Sport, Comfort and Snow. According to Torque NewsSnow mode automatically manages the transmission, throttle, and wheel slip to provide optimal traction.
Additionally, the 3.8-liter V6 engine makes 291 hp and 262 pound-feet of torque. This is great power for crawling over inclines and medium obstacles. It should be able to handle a bit of mud and ruts too.
Are the 2023 Telluride off-road versions comfortable for families?
Yes, the 2023 Kia Telluride off-road versions are designed to add capability without detracting from the SUV’s comfortable family reputation. The X-Pro and X-Line packages still provide a smooth ride and a quiet interior.
The EX trim adds leather upholstery, ventilated seats, rear sunshades, sound-absorbing front door glass, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. With the SX model, the 360-degree surround view camera adds more visibility to clear obstacles.
But you can be even more comfortable with the SX Prestige trim because it has heated and ventilated second-row seats! It also features a heated steering wheel and premium leather upholstery.
The 2023 Kia Telluride enhances its capability and keeps the whole family happy. While the X-Pro package has a bit more grit, the X-Line is still a great deal.
